DEKALB, IL Oct. 25, 2013—Participants from the Junior Research Scientists (JRS) from Columbia College Chicago presented at Northern Illinois University (NEIU), for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Youth Leadership Development Forum.
Hosted by NEIU in collaboration with HACU, NEIU Chicago Teachers Center, GEAR UP Chicago, and TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science , the event offered STEM workshops, counseling and Career readiness for more than 300 students and participants from various school across the Chicago region.
JRS presented one-hour workshops for 30 students, where they taught Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities to 8th and 9th grade students. The activities included experimenting with Solar Panels, Energy and Electricity.
The Junior Research Scientists (JRS) is a program offered at Columbia College Chicago to help Chicago’s urban high school students to be aware of and engaged in STEM related careers, as well as to develop skills related to astronomy and alternative energy technologies.
